PEP Basics for the Young Environmental Professional

Please join us for a one-hour presentation/overview of the role of Permitted Environmental Professionals (PEPs) in CT's Release Based Cleanup Program, followed by social time with beverages and pizza at BAD SONS Beer Co. in Derby. Jason Beach and Spencer Walker from HRP Associates will lead the presentation. HRP offers an 8-Hour Connecticut Permitted Environmental Professional (PEP) course which provides a comprehensive overview of environmental response considerations, applicable Connecticut statutes and regulations, sampling protocols, and risk assessment for individuals interested in becoming PEPs. Completion of the course provides PEP training certification, which may be required for certain individual or general Connecticut permit authorizations. Our presentation will include the main highlights of their full-day course.
Following the presentation, please join us for social time, beverages and pizza at the brewery!
Registration and Fee: This event is limited to EPOC members and registration is required in advance. The fee to attend is $25, which includes one complementary beverage and an assortment of pizza from Roseland Apizza.
Speaker Bios:
Jason Beach, NY PG, CPG, LEP – Principal, Regional Manager
Mr. Beach has 24 years of progressive experience in the management of environmental, health, and safety projects, due diligence, remediation, engineering, solid waste management, TSCA, RCRA corrective action, hazardous building materials, and natural resources projects. He has led an array of projects in the public utility, municipal, state, commercial, and educational sectors, as well as countless due diligence and investigation assignments.
Spencer Walker
Spencer T. Walker is a Project Consultant for HRP Associates’ Farmington, Connecticut office. Mr. Walker is well versed in the Environmental Site Assessment process and is knowledgeable in multiple state and federal standards governing ESA phases I through III, such as the ASTM and Connecticut’s Site Characterization Guidance Document standards. Mr. Walker serves as the Office Health and Safety Manager for HRP’s Farmington location. Following a public solicitation from CT DEEP in 2025, Mr. Walker established the first-of-its-kind Connecticut Permitted Environmental Professional (PEP) Training Course. As of 2026, Mr. Walker’s instruction has resulted in the certification of over 100 spill cleanup contractors and private industry professionals.
